The departure of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry from the royal family was one of the biggest events of the past year. However, with the spread of COVID 19 and a global pandemic, it took a back seat and only gained strength this year. The funny thing is that the comedian John Mulaney would’ve predicted everything that happened this year, including the interview with Oprah Winfrey, or at least that’s what he thinks.
A few days ago, the comedian was invited to Seth Meyers’ show, where he confessed his struggle and everything he’s been through in the last few months. However, he also referred to a segment from the Meyers show in which he discussed the royal family and specifically mentioned the actress from “Suits” and the son of Lady Di’s departure.
Mulaney’s only “Royal Watch” segment on “Late Night With Seth Meyers” aired in November 2020, just weeks before his hospitalization at a rehabilitation center. He spent a lot of time there talking about Meghan and Harry and how they were “desperate for publicity” after their departure from the crown was overshadowed by the global pandemic.
“Yes, it’s a big deal that they left. And they thought everyone was going to care, Meghan and Harry, and then people did care, but then the story was completely eclipsed and now people talk about it less,” “I had been under the influence the day before, and the day after I probably was under the influence. But while on the show, trying to update the audience on the ‘Royal Watch,’ at your insistence, I was more sober than not. However, a lot of people were then saying ‘Something’s wrong with John Mulaney’ and I was sitting at home going ‘Indeed something is,’” Mulaney said of his “Royal Watch” segment.
John Mulaney has no real interest in Meghan Markle or the royal family, but that section was quite successful, and he admitted as much on Sept. 7, when he was back on the Meyers Show couch. “I mean how crazy I must have been to suggest that Harry and Meghan were desperate for publicity,” he said. “Back in November, when that totally came true later.”
Now, Mulaney no longer talks about the relationship between Meghan and Harry, the series “The Crown” or the royal family. His life has taken a big turn since last year after his friends, including Seth, had an intervention and he opted to stay in a rehabilitation clinic. He’s now back to live shows, divorced from his ex-wife, and expecting his first child with Olivia Munn, whom he began dating earlier this year.
