NCIS unveils Gibbs’ three possible replacements in season 19

NCIS may submit three candidates for the “new Gibbs”.

What is the name of Mark Harmon's NCIS role

NCIS Season 19 will go undergo a major change, with Agent Gibbs appearing in only a few episodes. But is there a replacement in sight?

NCIS fans are preparing for a totally different team in season 19. With Ellie Bishop (played by Emily Wickersham) out and Leroy Gibbs (Mark Harmon) leaving the series, the team expects some changes. But will Gibbs be replaced? And if so, by whom?

Gibbs’ Replacement in the Series

NCIS has been on the air since 2003 and one thing fans have always trusted is that Agent Gibbs would be there to lead the team.

Although Gibbs isn’t leaving yet, he will no longer lead the series, as star Mark Harmon negotiated a deal with CBS to only appear in a few episodes of season 19

The exact number is still unknown, however, this has left fans worried.

Kelly Kahl, head of CBS Entertainment, told Deadline, “We do this year after year with Mark, we’d love to have him for as long as he’d like to be here. Even last season, he ended up absent in some [episodes], so we’re happy to work according to his schedule.”

The casting changes have already been announced, but the details remain unclear. Production for season 19 is well underway, with the new season scheduled to premiere on September 20, 2021 in the United States.

Unfortunately, there hasn’t been a trailer for season 19 yet, so fans will have to wait and just speculate about what’s going to happen.

But for now, Express.co.uk has compiled three characters in the upcoming season who are the potential candidates for Gibbs’ spot.

Agent Alden Park – Gary Cole

The newest addition to the NCIS team, Alden Park, is a character fans will meet for the first time in season 19. CBS stressed during the announcement that the character Alden Park will not be a direct replacement for Gibbs, though he joins the team as a veteran in the business.

Although not an official replacement for Gibbs, Park seems poised to fill his place during episodes where Gibbs will be absent.

Played by actor Gary Cole, Park will be a FBI special agent, but that is currently where the details of the character end.

Agent Jessica Knight – Katrina Law

After debuting in the last two episodes of Season 18, Katrina Law will now be a permanent character on the show as Jessica Knight. Since Ellie Bishop (Emily Wickersham) left NCIS during the season 18 finale, Knight seems to be a replacement for her rather than Gibbs.

However, with the dynamic of the cast changing significantly in season 19, there is nothing to stop Knight from leading the team.

Knight made a shocking entrance for fans when she was the sole survivor of an explosion that killed her entire team. She has the knowledge and experience to lead, with an attitude hardened by the tragic loss of her team.

Agent Nick Torres – Wilmer Valderrama

Nick Torres is a fan favorite who has been on the show since 2016. The character will be played by Wilmer Valderrama again, and it would be the perfect time for him to take over the team since Bishop and Gibbs are no longer with us.

The character has more experience with established team members, so he would naturally fit as a team leader.

Valderrama shared an update on season 19 with his fans on Instagram, with the caption, “You have been warned. SEE YOU ON MONDAY NIGHTS AT 9pm! You know what 9pm means?… We are starting to be provocatively dangerous. #NCIS.”

So, who are you rooting for to become the NCIS leader instead of Gibbs?
