One of the show’s main characters, Gibbs (Mark Harmon), is featured in a new poster for the upcoming episode. It did not take long for fans to speculate on Twitter about the long-awaited return of a certain character after noticing a mysterious person in the background of the latest CBS promo.
The new poster for NCIS season 19 leads fans to believe Tony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly) is making an unexpected comeback.
In advance of next week’s premiere, the latest promo was shared on Twitter on Monday.
Additionally, the tweet revealed that Gary Cole will be appearing as Special Agent Alden Park, a long-standing mystery on the show.
The caption read: “We think it’s about time this diner had a name. Grab a cup of coffee at Elaine’s Diner.”
While most fans were happy to see the marketing for the upcoming season finally get underway, many of them couldn’t help but pay notice to the mysterious figure in the background who seemed to be keeping an eye on things.
Several people theorized that veteran NCIS agent Tony DiNozzo may have made an unusual comeback in the new poster.
One of the fans replied: “Is that Tony in the background? Coming in or going out?
No one knows for sure who this mysterious stranger is, as their face is concealed by a lantern.
Aside from being a simple coincidence, Tony’s placement in the poster may hint at his eventual return in the 2021-22 season.
“Oh, I didn’t see the person at the entrance,” said another fan. Too blurry to tell.
“However, it does appear to be a man. However, wouldn’t it be exciting if it were Tony?
The stranger’s black T-shirt is certainly a departure from DiNozzo’s usual grab, though it would fit the agent’s departure from the team in 2016.
