Paramount Network’s military drama SEAL Team made its highly anticipated return to screens after 16 days off the air. As well as Jason Hayes (played by David Boreanaz) coming to terms with the fragile state of his mental condition, fans were left sobbing after he was reunited with Alana Hayes (Michaela McManus).
The episode titled Keys to Heaven saw Jason finally face the hard truth about a past mission which went horribly wrong as a result of his mental state.
Ray Perry (Neil Brown Jr) and Clay Spenser (Max Thieriot) were forced to tell the Bravo leader the cold facts about their recovery mission in Mali.
Although viewers didn’t get to see how it happened, episode eight showed the members of the team in hospital – with Trent Sawyer (Tyler Grey) in an induced coma.
While Clay tried to work out what went wrong, Jason couldn’t remember and then told two different stories.
During the hospital visit, Jason was officially diagnosed with TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) but he couldn’t take the pressure of the situation and walked out.
In the most recent episode, Jason was finally told it was his forgetfulness which caused the near-fatal catastrophe.
Instead of the enemy RPG which he initially stated was what made the building collapse and land his entire team in the hospital.
Jason refused to listen and claimed the statements were “b*t” before storming out.
He later came to terms with the facts and regretted that his 20-year career on the front line was going to end, calling it: “The worst way ever.”
Ray, who had sought professional help for his PTSD offered Jason help and took him to Mark Lee (Shawn Hatosy), a former ranger who self-medicated his way out of PTS and TBI.
Although Jason was initially sceptical, he was later persuaded and took the psychedelics in hopes of receiving the same “enlightenment”.
Instead, his mind forced him to confront his past including the first deaths he felt responsible for, and then in the shocking scene, he was reunited with his deceased wife Alanna.
Fans were left in tears to see the two share a screen again, which hasn’t happened since her death in season two.
Jaszy21 tweeted: “Jason being so emotional I’m crying!!! #SEALTeam I freaking love Alana’s responses to Jason’s guilt.”
Tigerney13 shared: “This new episode was one of the best ever. I was literally sobbing when Jason talked to Alana.”
AClarkCountry wrote: “I just finished watching #SEALTeam. Wow. They brought back Alana as a ghost. Very well done episode.”
Alana met her death as a result of a fatal car accident when she went out to buy some wine, beer and chicken.
She reminded him to stop focusing on how things ended and remember the good days of when it began: “Things go wrong, but they also go right.”
In their heart-to-heart conversation, Jason shared his regrets and claimed she made a “mistake” loving him.
However, Alana countered with: “You don’t get to tell me what my, our life was, because we were both there,” then continued and confirmed: “Jason Hayes, you are worthy of love”.
