Tom Selleck Reveals He Was "Scared to Death" Guest-Starring on Friends
Tom Selleck's Surprising Friends Confession: "Scared to Death"
Veteran actor Tom Selleck, known for his tough-guy roles like Frank Reagan on Blue Bloods, recently revealed a surprising secret on The Kelly Clarkson Show: he was "scared to death" to guest-star on the hit sitcom Friends.
Selleck, who played Monica Geller's (Courteney Cox) older love interest, Dr. Richard Burke, admitted his fear stemmed from his lack of experience with sitcoms. "The hardest thing is to guest on a show...I hadn't done a sitcom. And so, I was really nervous," he confessed.
Luckily, Selleck had Cox in his corner. "Courteney's a big help," he said, praising the supportive atmosphere on set. "That group's an incredible group of friends. They obviously became friends in life as well as on the show. And it shows. It was a wonderful place to work."
Despite his initial nerves, Selleck's recurring role as Richard Burke became a fan favorite, and he made nine appearances on the show between 1995 and 2000. Now, Selleck uses his experience to help new actors feel comfortable on set. "I try to relax the new actors because that's really hard to come on a show where everybody's up to speed."
