Blue Bloods: A Heartfelt Toast for Jamie and Eddie's Wedding

Frank Reagan delivers a touching speech at his children's nuptials.

The moment Blue Bloods fans have been eagerly anticipating is finally here – the wedding of Eddie Janko (Vanessa Ray) and Jamie Reagan (Will Estes), affectionately dubbed "Jamko" by devoted viewers. As the ninth season draws to a close, we're treated to a rehearsal dinner scene that perfectly captures the show's blend of family values and modern sensibilities.

In the season finale, "Something Blue," we find Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) grappling with the pressure of delivering the perfect toast at his son's rehearsal dinner. But what unfolds is a beautiful surprise that breaks from tradition in the most meaningful way.

The emotional core of the episode centers on Eddie's decision to walk down the aisle alone – a choice that speaks volumes about her character and the show's progressive approach to traditional ceremonies.

"Eddie isn't anyone's to give away," Frank declares in his toast. "She is her own woman, and her own life force, and I have seen it in action on the job. And we have all seen it in action at our dinner table."

In an exclusive interview, Vanessa Ray shared the touching real-life inspiration behind this powerful moment. During a visit from her parents on set, a conversation with executive producer Kevin Wade revealed her own wedding story. "Not a lot of people know this, but when I asked my dad to walk me down the aisle for my wedding, he said no!" Ray explains. "Then he explained that it's because that is an antiquated tradition. I'm not property. I'm not his to give away."

This personal anecdote resonated so deeply with the show's creative team that it found its way into the script, resulting in one of the season's most touching moments. Ray admits it took considerable effort "not to cry hearing Tom Selleck repeat words my dad said to me."

The season finale of Blue Bloods airs Friday at 10 p.m. ET on CBS, with the series confirmed to return for its tenth season this fall.
