E Ink presents new e-paper

E Ink has unveiled a new version of its e-paper technology, called Spectra 6. According to the company, this colored e-paper should reproduce images nearly as well as a traditional LCD screen.

The advantage of e-paper over LCD screens is that it requires significantly less energy to display things on e-paper. Furthermore, E Ink Spectra 6 is able to display images of up to 200 dpi on e-paper. Initially, Spectra 6 is intended to be used primarily in static digital billboards. It may take a while before we can see e-papers like Spectra 6 in e-book readers.

Within the next year, E Ink plans to release digital billboards with Spectra 6.
