NCIS has seen Agent Gibbs, played by Mark Harmon, fall in love several times over the years, but was Caitlin Todd meant to be his first?
The NCIS premiere showed us the beginning of former Secret Service agent Caitlin Todd (Sasha Alexander) leaving the White House behind to join Agent Leroy Gibbs (Mark Harmon) on the team, but were Gibbs and Caitlin Todd supposed to be together?
It wasn’t until the series began to find its place that the focus was on Todd and Agent Tony Dinozzo (Michael Weatherly). Her relationship with Gibbs changed, as he became a father figure to her and the other agents, who followed in her footsteps.
Fans will never forget the two agents flirting in the early days of NCIS, but the show’s creators never spoke openly about their possible romance.
This could be because they wanted viewers to see Gibbs as more of a father figure to the younger agents, rather than a potential romantic interest for Caitlin Todd.
As the series has continued, a similar relationship has developed between him and agents Ziva David (Paul’s Cote) and Ellie Bishop (Emily Wickersham). When Gibbs returns, he may have the same kind of bond with the new Agent Jessica Knight (Katrina Law).
As viewers will remember, Gibbs won’t be seen right away, as in the NCIS season 18 finale he pretended to be dead when his boat exploded, in an attempt to try to deceive the serial killer he was chasing.
