Taylor Sheridan changes title and time period of #1932Y! And we know who HarrisonFord will play!
There seems to be no stopping Taylor Sheridan. The multi-hyphenate writer, director, producer and actor created Paramount’s breakout hit Yellowstone in 2018 and he hasn’t slowed down since. The darling of Paramount, Sheridan recently extended his multi-year deal with Paramount through 2028 and now has nine (yes, nine!) series on the air or in the works!
One of the newest Yellowstone spinoffs is a prequel previously called 1932, but Paramount+ just announced that the title has been changed to 1923. The new series previously planned to focus on Prohibition will now encompass the aftermath of World War I and beginning of Prohibition.
1923 follows 1883 which showed the Dutton ancestors make the dangerous and deadly trek to Montana.
Sheridan has not disappointed Paramount or Paramount+. Two of the shows he created for the old-school network’s huge splash into the original streaming content arena, Mayor of Kingstown and Yellowstone prequel series 1883, are bonafide hits for the streamer that have been renewed and extended, respectively.
Here’s everything we know about the new series 1923, including the premiere!
What is the Yellowstone prequel 1923 about?
The Yellowstone prequel previously titled 1932, now 1923, follows the Dutton family through another expansion period in U.S. history—the early 1920s and beyond. In the new series, we’ll see the Dutton ancestors cope with drought, cattle theft, lawlessness, and the beginning of the Great Depression. Previously planned to focus on Prohibition, Sheridan may have run into a historical issue with that plot. Montana was the first state to repeal Prohibition in 1926 so that would have been a challenging storyline.
Will there be an 1883 season 2?
Executive producer David Glasser told The Hollywood Reporter that the recently announced Yellowstone prequel series 1923 “was always intended to be the second season” of 1883.
Who’s in the 1923 cast?
In a landmark deal for streaming, Paramount+ revealed today that Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford will star in 1923.
We don’t yet know who Mirren will portray.
Ford will likely portray John Dutton Sr. (played by Audie Rick in 1883) in the series.
We can probably also expect to see actor James Jordan appear in some capacity on the show. Jordan has appeared in several of Sheridan’s project including Yellowstone (as livestock agent Steve Hendon), 1883 (as Cookie), and Mayor of Kingstown (as prison guard Ed Simmons).
Considering the star power on Sheridan’s other series, we can’t wait to see who else he ropes into his newest show. Check back here for updates!
When does 1923 premiere?
Along with the casting announcement came the earliest Christmas gift of the year: The premiere date for 1923 previously titled 1932. Following the precedent set with 1883, 1923 will premiere in December 2022.
Has 1923 started filming yet?
As far as we know, filming has not yet begun on 1923. But with stars and the new theme, production should be underway soon if it’s not already.
Where can I watch 1923?
1923 will stream exclusively on Paramount+.
What are the prequels and spinoffs of Yellowstone in development/production so far?
