The Umbrella Academy Season 2 introduced some new characters with superhuman abilities, including young Harlan Cooper. The recurring character was the Carl and Sissy Cooper’s nonverbal autistic son, who eventually gained powers with far-reaching consequences.

Unlike the Hargreeves siblings of The Umbrella Academy, who discovered their powers from a young age, Harlan gained his abilities in a unique way during the events of Season 2.

Harlan gained his powers during the events of Season 2 of The Umbrella Academy.

Harlan could project energy to manipulate or repel objects via sound absorption, a power associated with Diego; when he loses control, Harlan demonstrates an amplified version of Vanya’s powers.

During Season 2, Harlan unleashed a continuous blast of sonic energy, forming a sort of energy shield and trapping him in the center. Vanya hadn’t mastered her own power at this point, but Harlan appeared to have.

Despite Vanya’s (Ellen Page) efforts to alleviate Harlan’s burden, she was unable to completely remove his powers at The Umbrella Academy.

The Umbrella Academy: In one of the final scenes, we see how Harlan kept his powers after Vanya took them away.

Harlan is shown spinning a toy above his hand as he and his mother drive into their new life.
This revealed that Harlan had retained his telekinetic abilities and, more importantly, that he could use them with minimal effort and that might not be all.

If Harlan can keep some of his powers, he may be able to unlock something more powerful in the future. And, without Vanya, Harlan has the potential to become a major threat in The Umbrella Academy season 3 and beyond.
