By now you may have explored the Disney Plus catalog and noticed that some of the blockbuster movies aren’t on the mouse streaming service, such as Spiderman, Hulk, Deadpool and Logan, among others. Maybe you wonder why?
Why isn’t Spiderman on Disney Plus?
The reason is that the character’s rights are not from Marvel, but from Sony. For now some Spiderman movies are on Netflix, including Spider-Man: Back Home, starring Tom Holland.
Sony and Marvel Studios by Disney
In 2015, Sony partnered with Disney’s Marvel Studios, allowing Kevin Feige, director of Marvel, to oversee Spiderman’s films, and lent the character to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (without giving up rights). This is how Spider-Man Homecoming and Spider-Man: Far From Home emerged, two of the highest-grossing and critically acclaimed films.
However, in August 2019, Sony decided to take charge of his character.
In October 2019, following fan outrage and the intervention by Tom Holland, Sony and Disney reached an agreement to produce a third film, which will be the sequel to Spider-Man: Far From Home. The new Spiderman movie is currently being shot which could feature performances by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield. And it is scheduled to premiere on December 17, 2021.
Why isn’t Logan on Disney Plus?
The movie Logan is characterized by brutal violence and obscene language, so Disney Plus excludes this and most other adult-rated movies. So you won’t be able to find them on Disney+, which is geared towards a family audience.
Why aren’t Deadpool, Logan and the X-Men in Disney Plus?
Although Disney purchased Fox (March 20, 2019), which owned the rights to Deadpool and the X-Men, and also produced all X-Men tapes to date, it has refused to add such films to Disney+.
The reason does not surprise us, because Disney Plus is oriented to be a platform for the whole family, this leaves all R-rated films (according to the American rating system), which is not suitable for children under the age of 17, out of the Disney Plus catalog.
Deadpool and Logan movies are characterized by brutal violence and obscene language, so Disney Plus excludes these and other adult-rated movies. So you won’t be able to find them at Disney+.
Disney is preparing a new platform that will contain all the adult films from Fox: Star. Fox practically changes its name and is now called Star+. This new streaming service will contain Deadpool, Logan, Titanic, Secret Records X (seasons 1-11), Grey’s Anatomy (seasons 1-16), Pison Break (seasons 1-5) and countless movies and series. It will also have ESPN.
Why isn’t Hulk and Iron man on Disney Plus?
The reason Iron Man and The Incredible Hulk isn’t on Disney Plus is that it still has a contract with Netflix. It is unknown when it will end this contract and so it can be added Disney+.
